Yoga

Yoga developed over 5000 years ago and is one of the oldest system of personal development. It is a path to greater personal freedom, health, life, self understanding and ultimately a path to self-realization.

The word yoga means "union" in Sanskrit, the language of ancient India where yoga originated. We can think of the union occurring between the mind, body, and spirit.

What is commonly referred to as "yoga" can be more accurately described by the Sanskrit word "asana," which refers to the practice of physical postures or poses.

In Yoga, the body is treated with care and respect for it is primary instrument in man's work and growth. Yoga poses, called asanas, improve circulation, stimulate the abdominal organs, help with weight loss, and put pressure on the glandular system of the body, which leads to better health.

Breathing techniques were developed based on the concept that breath is the source of life. In Yoga, the student  gains breathing control called pranayama. By focusing on the breathing and asanas, the student prepares their body and mind for meditation.
